Vietnam Floods Appeal

The Red Cross is appealing to the international community for 1.1 million Swiss francs to assist 42,000 people who have been affected by the worst floods to affect the country's Mekong Delta in more than a decade.


Floods began in the Mekong Delta in the middle of September. According to the Government, almost 600,000 people have been affected in seven provinces, with 73 deaths. Cruelly, 65 of these have been children. In all, more than 125,000 houses have been inundated and more than 10,000 acres of rice paddies lost.


In Tan Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district, Dong Thap province, home to 3,200 families, dozens of homes have been damaged or destroyed.
