West Africa ? Ebola virus disease

ENG

It has now been two months since the government of Guinea confirmed an outbreak of Ebola virus disease, with 127 confirmed cases and 82 deaths to date. WHO indicates transmission appears to be on the decline, cautioning however, that with an incubation period of up to three weeks, new cases will likely be reported in the coming weeks. Through emergency appeals in Guinea and Liberia, National Red Cross Societies continue to raise awareness in communities on how to prevent the spread of Ebola and to help reduce some of the fear and stigma that is gripping communities not familiar with the disease. In Guinea, a man who contracted Ebola and survived is now working with the Red Cross to help share those messages. His story is below. You will also find an edited video report from Guinea in English and French as well as raw video material. In Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Mali, preparedness DREFs have been launched to proactively raise awareness about Ebola, should the disease spread there.
