Typhoon Bopha 2 months on - Survivor Interviews

ENG

February 4 marks two months since Super Typhoon Bopha made landfall in the Philippines. Bopha caused extensive devastation across the island of Mindanao, Over 1,000 people were killed and more than 218,000 homes were left damaged damaged or destroyed.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has been working with the Philippine Red Cross to provide emergency relief to thousands of families living in evacuation centres as well as those remaining in their damaged homes. Providing emergency shelter assistance is one of the main humanitarian needs but the poor response from international donors has meant that only 20% of families whose homes were damaged have received any support to repair their houses.

The IFRC's 16.2 million Swiss franc appeal is currently 70% underfunded. Under the current situation, the IFRC can only provide shelter repair materials to 5,000 of the 15,000 families targeted under its appea.
